It doesn't.
Sperm takes three months to fully mature inside the body.
During that time, it picks up tiny signals called micro RNAs.
Think of them as little messages the body sends out to prepare for what's coming.
If a father is under a lot of stress, those stress signals get passed into the sperm.
If he drinks heavily, that gets passed in too.
There are studies showing that a father who drinks before conception can contribute to a child developing fetal alcohol syndrome.
Even when the mother doesn't drink at all.
We put a lot of focus on what the mother does during pregnancy.
But the father's health in the three months before conception matters just as much.
What you eat, how much you sleep, how stressed you are, it all shapes what gets passed on.
Did you know this?
